Yesterday, Trump demonstrated his incompetence and irresponsibility yet again by threatening to cancel an important government contract with Boeing to build two new Air Force One jets. Trump tweeted that the cost of this contract exceeded $4 billion, and that this was an unacceptable price to pay in order to protect and professionally transport future US Presidents.
Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!

Shortly after this tweet, the accredited media exploded with articles criticizing Trump for this reckless and unorthodox move to interfere with our government’s contractual obligations. Politifact immediately set to work fact-checking Trump’s ludicrous claims, highlighting that the contract is for two jets, not one as trump has claimed, and that the actual cost of the project is more likely to be $3.7 billion, not more than $4 billion as Trump stated in his tweet. Trump’s highly inaccurate and untimely tweet has sent Boeing’s stock price plummeting, damaging pension funds and threatening American workers with potential layoffs.
Boeing is one of America’s most prized multinationals, employing thousands of Americans in good-paying manufacturing jobs, the very types of jobs that Trump claimed he wanted to protect. Boeing also manufacturers weapons, fighter jets and cyber security products for the Pentagon, helping America achieve its many foreign policy goals overseas. Trump’s decision to cancel this contract comes as a shock to many ordinary patriotic Americans who expected him to protect American corporations and American jobs. This move has proven Trump to be a fraud yet again, and that he’ll even betray his own voting base in order to boost his PR and build his image as a ruthless business man, willing to cut costs to balance the budget. Progressives are rightfully standing behind Boeing and their many employees during this scandal, proving once again that progressives stand for the people, whereas Trump stands only for himself. One can only hope that America gets the recount it deserves, and that Hillary is duly elected President next month, in line with the popular vote, as with Trump’s lack of professionalism this country is unlikely to last past his first term.
