Obama Signs Courageous Act To Counter Fake News

Despite the fierce opposition to sensible internet regulations by America’s far right, Obama bravely doubled down in the fight against fake news last Friday by signing the Countering Foreign Propaganda And Disinformation Act into law. The act finally gives the Department Of Defense and various intelligence agencies the tools they need to fight back against Russian propaganda and misinformation circulating on alternative media sites such as Infowars, Zerohedge and Breitbart. Despite the opposition to these regulations by large misguided sections of the American populace, the bill passed with an overwhelming majority in both the House and Senate.

Among the many provisions in the act, the State Department is authorized to crack down on media outlets deemed to be fake news or foreign propaganda. In order to make such a determination, the department will draw upon the expertise of senior defense and intelligence authorities, as well as the Broadcasting Board Of Governors and various other officials. The Broadcasting Board Of Governors consists of roughly four Republicans and four Democrats to ensure that the panel remains objective and non-partisan. The act authorizes these government agencies to actively promote fact-based accredited narratives that are in line with US interests and policy objectives. In addition, funding has been allocated to help train journalists, NGOs and other private entities to identify and counter fake news and disinformation.

This act officially gives America the most advanced media framework in the world, by empowering senior authorities to guide, influence and block narratives to help keep audiences as informed as possible. This will greatly improve the quality of information available to American citizens, as well as citizens of other countries who consume media affected by this legislation. Although there is significant objection among the few who are aware of this act, it’s safe to say that as people start reaping the benefits of widely available, high quality accredited news, they will soon come to appreciate the importance of this legislation. It’s time for us to band together as progressives to fight toxic disinformation and get behind this bold attempt by the Obama administration to protect Americans from fake news. The future of America depends on it.

Ah man, NBC, CNN, and other nodding heads are in trouble with all their cut and paste drivel for the masses. Oh wait, they are in the government perverbial tit so their propoganda is ok.

Hopefully Trump will make them at least grovel for a while but Im sure hes just like any of the turds that land In office.

Im beginning to realize almost every law is a bad, knee jerk reaction to something that would actually work itself out if the government didnt get involved qnd mess it u.

Looks like Trump will continue the Obama tradition of providing turd sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Only the sandwiches will be kosher.

Just for your information TrueDat being gay is not an insult – quite the opposite.

Black Lives Matter

This is such an important law. We need to go back to the government funding accredited media sources as it did under Frank Wisner, Allen Dulles, and Philip Graham from the late 1940s until the 1970s — the Golden Age of Media. That gave us the wonderful independent media that we have today. I suspect that foreign governments, like those in the E.U., the Middle East, and China, are continuing to fund our media, even after that operation ceased (while the U.S. funds media in the E.U. and elsewhere, all in coordination with each other). But this law will help give our technocrats and career politicians the control and privacy they need to implement global governance.

In the AT article “The Chip is Finally Here,” the statement was made: “The only people who could possibly object to microchip implants are those with something to hide. ” I think the same principle applies here. The only news organizations complaining about the outlawing of fake news are those who are creating it, like the alt-right news sites you mentioned.

How will this law affect the so-called ´satirical’ publications like Daily Kos and Huffington Post who I’ve always understood (i could be wrong here in which case I will be embarrassed) to send up progressive journalism in a pretty nasty way?

Top notch AT article about the Oboma Act MDB. Fake news sites like Inforwars, Zerohedge and Breibart must be shaking in their shoes, wondering what’s coming down the line. This time all bets are off.

Wow – this is great news. It’s about time that something is done about these liars!!!

So glad that truth finally prevails, signed by our charismatic and ethnically diverse President, who’s not stopping his motto of CHANGE even during the last days in office. Russia is a threat that can with it’s propaganda obliterate the mightiest military power in the history of world and must be countered.

richandrenee

Sensible internet regulation will deal those lying Russian propagandists a fatal blow!!

OK, I am seriously triggered by the hatred and bigotry of this post. BLM wasn’t a “PR thing”, but a movement by concerned and peaceful citizens that are horrified by the racism emanating from right-wing nutters and corrupt police officers.

A gallant, epoch defining Act signed into law by our resolute and heroic president. His greatness (and his illustrious legacy) had already been cemented long ago (Nobel Prize, in case anyone had forgotten), but now he has saved our republic from venal alt-right sectaries and Kremlin-sponsored terrorists working lockstep with their fake news lackeys. President Obama has saved our economy, promoted sensible climate change laws, created jobs for hard-working American families and was recently named the “most admired man” in the renowned Gallup poll (FOR THE 9TH YEAR IN A ROW).

We now get to look forward to the Colossal Orange Frankenstein and his retinue of jingoistic philistines.

As for President Obama:
