The Rise Of The Young Turks

The Young Turks started off as a small radio show and YouTube channel in the early 2000’s, offering a much needed alternative to the predominantly right wing media at the time. They built their name on calling out numerous Republican politicians for their racism, sexism and bigotry, and for criticizing Bush’s unjust foreign policy which has since been reformed by the Obama administration. Since then, TYT has grown beyond any of the founders’ wildest dreams, and become one of the primary sources of news for young people all over the world.

The Young Turks are led by notorious progressive activist Cenk Uygur, who for years has served as a role model for young people, teaching them how to combat conservatives with adjectives, sarcastic remarks, shouting and character assassinations. Unlike some on the left, Cenk is not a afraid to play dirty in order to advance progressive ideals, and his example has raised a generation of Millennials who are highly adept at deflecting right-wing bigotry with a range of rhetorical tools, rather than critical thinking and reasoned argument, which is far less effective. His captivating style is taken directly from Saul Alinsky’s playbook, and has opened hearts and minds to progressivism all over the world, while shaming and silencing those on the right.

The Young Turks have courageously stood up for actions to tackle climate change, the rights of womyn to terminate their pregnancies, and the need for strict gun control laws. The Young Turks also courageously called out Alex Jones and Roger Stone during the election for their many lies and smear attempts against the Clintons. They were also one of the few media outlets brave enough to call out Trump for refusing to release his tax returns, and sound the alarm about Russia’s likely involvement in the election. If it weren’t for the Young Turks, the accredited media would be left to fight for these social justice issues on its own, with no significant presence online.

The right has criticized Cenk Uygur profusely for supposedly denying the Armenian genocide, but liberals have praised him for ignoring these blatant Islamophobic smear attempts, and remaining focused on the issues that people really care about. The Young Turks provide a much needed voice for young people, which mirrors the many fact-checked talking points of the accredited media. In the age of fake news, they are an essential asset to progressives, who fear that young people may continue to fall into the hands of predatory conspiracy theorists and right-wing extremists who run much of the fake news on the internet. Every progressive should thank these heroes for their service, and wish them a very fruitful 2017, where they will need to step up their game to criticize Trump, Russia and fake news. Let’s all wish them good luck and a happy new year!

Uygur is a textbook example of why America benefits from immigration and multiculturalism. Most of the world believes in progressive socialist values; only America has a backward belief system based on supposed “freedom” instead of free healthcare, free housing, and other free benefits that socialism provides.

Uygur brings a much-needed Turkish perspective to the media. He has also evolved past previous generations of hyphenated Americans by dropping the “American” altogether. MSNBC needs to hire Uygur back full time.

Yeah a much needed perspective of attempting to silence and defund Armenians and of denying the Armenian Holocaust.

How enlightening. I guess black lives matter to you but Armenian lives don’t? What a joke.

What is an Armenian?

MDB, You said: “Cenk is not a afraid to play dirty in order to advance progressive ideals, and his example has raised a generation of Millennials who are highly adept at deflecting right-wing bigotry with a range of rhetorical tools, rather than critical thinking and reasoned argument, which is far less effective.”

I used to think that Accredited Times was being rude. For example, a month or so ago, one of the accredited writers wrote a copy & paste script for right-wing trolls that began something like, “Listen here, you idiot …”

But I now realize that the deplorable alt-right people are all alike (like TrueDat, KittyKittyBangBang). It’s foolish to waste your time arguing with people who are irredeemable. And the new flagging system is just as good as the “Listen here, you idiot” script because the readers quickly learn not to even read comments that are highlighted in red.

That may have been me and I was just triggered. I am frequently triggered. Many people say my avatar suggests that I am full of hate, malice, ill will, and disagreeability. To that I respond, this just UNDERSCORES the need for common sense gun control, because if I cannot be trusted with a gun due to my volatile temperament, then NOBODY CAN.

Mr. trav: You spoke of your “volatile temperament.” I admit that I have noticed it and I hope you don’t live anywhere near me. You start out your arguments by giving people the middle finger with your Avatar icon. Stable progressives start out with peace signs, so to speak, and don’t use their middle fingers till somebody disagrees with them.

You mean like Armenian Holocaust deniers? That is a pretty irredeemable position it’s taken Cenk 30 years and he still can’t acknowledge it.

Cenk is so dreamy.

I am impressed by the Young Turks. But I checked the chart in the article “A Comprehensive Breakdown Of Fake News Sites”, and I couldn’t find them. Accredited Times is right at the top of the chart. There have been consistent reports that other mainstream news organizations have been spying on and copying AT. Even though the Young Turks are admittedly very good, they are not the best, and I suspect they will be copying from AT a lot more than AT will be copying them.

Black Lives Matter

Agreed. The Young Turks are a Turkish delight, but the Accredited Times is fully accredited.

Agreed The Young Turks are fake news.

You are a moron. Criticizing Cenk’s long history of armenophobia and Armenian Genocide denial is not islamophobia and isn’t just coming from “the right”. The Armenian community has been protesting against TYT since at least 2006 on this issue and Cenk was forced to drop out of a moderator gig that year due to the number of letters received.

Cenk tried to defund Armenians in college on Genocide Memorial Day 24th April, for placing an ad in the student newspaper that quoted the EU resolution that Turkey would need to recognize the Young Turks Genocide to gain membership.

Cenk wrote 3 articles denying the Armenian Genocide, one that he placed on The Young Turks website for years before adding the dictionary definition that he now claims he named his show after.

Cenk Uygur has never said that he considers the Armenian Holocaust to be Genocide and when asked directly in Aug 2016 said that he doesn’t hold that position.

Imagine a show called the Nazis that had Holocaust denial on its website in the past and a founder who had tried to defund a Jewish club in college and to this day refused to admit the Holocaust was genocide?

The criticism from the Armenian community is completely valid and you should be ashamed of yourself for calling it islamophobia, what a disgrace.

What is this “Armenian community” that you speak of? Are your neighbors avowed members of your “community”? Is this some kind of cult?

Whoever and whatever the Armenian community maybe, there certainly not many of them left, since the Young Turks did that hachet job. Suggest you try latest #triggered gadget!
