As Trump vows to put America first, above global issues like climate change, inequality and white privilege, progressives are desperate for a new leader with a global vision. As the West descends into nationalism and populism, the left are looking for leaders with a collectivist vision for the world, and a willingness to put their national interests aside for the greater good.
Fortunately, America is not the only global superpower. Over the last few decades, China has risen to prominence and has become the envy of progressives, with their ban on fake news, recent one child policy and their dedication to tackling climate change. China is committed to solving global inequality, and is a big player in the various global organizations setting the agendas for progressive governments around the world, such as the UN, Davos and the World Economic Forum.
Many progressives have divorced themselves from America, and are instead siding with China and the various global governing institutions who still believe in a liberal new world order. Populism is an evil ideology, which appeals to the lowest common denominator in society. In America’s case this would be gun-wielding rednecks. In Britain and Ireland, it’s Islamophobic skinheads and white male thugs from industrial estates. In continental Europe, it’s racist farmers and rural traditionalists.
Somebody has to take the reigns of power away from these alt right thugs and steer the world back in the direction of liberalism and progressivism. I believe that China, Saudi Arabia and the various global governing institutions can collectively stop the West and Russia from eliminating decades of global progress, and instead build a new world order based on equality, prosperity and dignity for all.
