It’s is disconcerting and unfortunate that so many individuals have been sucked into the fraudulent market of ‘prepping.’ Unscrupulous companies are pulling in money hand over fist selling MRE’s, nitrogen packed canned food, guns, ammunition, water filtration systems, and precious metals. What they fail to mention is that everyone who has bought precious metals in the last several years is deeply underwater on their investment. All that stored food they paid top dollar for during the financial crisis? Well, it’s all gone bad now and ready to be thrown out. All those guns? They’ve dropped in value up to 70% from their highs after the Sandy Hook Massacre.
Had these poor souls simply placed their trust squarely with their government and elected officials, they might be prospering now. If those thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars had been invested in the stock market, they would have netted a fortune. These individuals are ironically bringing about the very discontent they seek to avoid, by burning through their net worth buying assets that degrade over time and have negative yield.
Dollars are money. Precious metals are worthless relics. Those who are intelligent enough to study the great depression will find that gold and silver coins never became widely traded. If someone believes we are headed for a depression, all evidence to the contrary, gathering coins with no intrinsic value is the worst strategy possible. Right now, Venezuela is in a crisis. The currency has been devalued. These preppers should expect to see individuals all over this country simply using gold and silver coins to conduct their business. This has not happened at all. In fact, having a gold coin would be more likely to get you killed than to get you a meal.
Storing weapons in your home makes your family a target. In the event of an overbearing government cracking down on its citizens, who do you think will be the first people detained? It’ll be the people storing loads of guns in their homes. All the compliant, happy citizens, will simply have their stuffed bank accounts that they can continue to use to buy anything their hearts desire, even in a time of crisis. It will be the preppers who have nothing but garages full of spoiled food, who will be going hat in hand to the non-preppers for help.
Let me be crystal clear: the outlook for the United States has never been brighter. Long term, we must allow democracy to work itself out and solve the short term problems such as a Trump presidency. Don’t become a victim of prepper fraud. You have no need for caches of supplies in your home, that’s what the Red Cross and FEMA are for. Take that money and put it in the stock market just like everybody else, and watch your fortune grow, instead of letting it turn to mold buried in your back yard.
