On this day five years ago notorious cyber-bully pioneer and proto-internet-troll Sebastian Svetska (aka @skankbusta) passed away at forty-four years of age from a malignant melanoma – ending more than two decades of vicious internet trolling and malicious bullying.
Little is known about Sebastian’s early life. He was born in 1968 somewhere in Canada. His Ukrainian father had fallen afoul of the Soviet authorities when he used a БЭСМ to infiltrate the US system/360 and mock American scientists, at three different US universities, by pretending to be one of them. A Soviet translator had missed the subtleties of sarcasm and satire in the written English language and set off a chain of events that led to Svetska’s parents fleeing across the Berlin wall and settling in Canada where @skankbusta and his three sisters were born and grew up.
In 1989 Sebastian acquired six Agat computers from his cousin in the recently collapsed Ukraine for the bargain price $.80 each, not a bad deal since the same computer had sold for $17,000 just months earlier. Svetska took these six computers and added them to his two pre-existing computers – and built his hateful, racist, misogynistic troll army. He then spent the remaining twenty-three years of his life upgrading his repugnant troll station and spewing hatred on the internet.
At first @skankbusta’s cyber bullying and trolling were, for the most part, apolitical – but as the years went by they took on an increasingly paranoid antisemitic flavor wherein a year before his death he was posting crazy 1930’s style conspiracy theories about money and Jews controlling the media.
The saddest and most shocking part of the Sebastian Svetska story is just how virulent the poison that @skankbusta pioneered has become. It has taken root in the web like a cancer – a disease that strikes at foolish souls who spend too much time on the internet.
Sebastian was so successful in his evil bullying because he trail blazed the criminal notion that it is ok to open multiple internet identities in names that are not your own – sensible internet regulation must be enacted on a global level making it mandatory to use micro-chip identification when logging in so the internet can finally be safe from the millions of trolls who have followed in @skankbusta’s evil foot-steps.
It is time to petition our leaders and demand sensible internet regulation now. We must have a system whereby everyone must use only one, real, identity to login with. There are millions of @skankbusta’s opening billions of internet accounts with the sole, criminal, intention of trolling and internet bullying. The cost of doing nothing will be immeasurable hurt feelings and human suffering.
Remember, if you’re being cyber-bullied or maliciously trolled follow these four steps:
- Don’t respond to and don’t forward cyberbullying messages.
- Keep evidence of cyber-bullying. Record the dates, times, and descriptions of instances when cyber-bullying has occurred. Save and print screenshots, emails, and text messages.
- Block the person who is cyber-bullying.
- Report to regional authorities and get help.
There is help out there.
