Five Best Foods For A Patriotic Fourth of July

Independence Day is almost here!

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Accredited Times) – The Fourth of July is almost upon us! For many, that means firecrackers, parties, concerts, and plenty of red, white, and blue. But before breaking out the M-80s, we all have a more important question to answer: what should we eat to celebrate our independence??? Here are our top five foods for a patriotic Fourth of July:

1.  Bagels

Nothing is more traditionally American than bagels! Seriously, everything tastes better with bagels. I prefer mine with tofu and alfalfa sprouts. Sesame seed and poppy seed are the best!

Bagels!!! Nom nom nom!
Poppy seed bagels are my fav — just be sure not to take a drug test within 48 hours if you want to pass!

2.  Matzo

Matso is sooooo good. Like bagels, matzo goes well with pretty much anything! Try matzo ball soup. Es muy delicioso.

Matzo is like a cracker — only way better.
Matzo ball soup is the definition of delicious.

3.  Hummus

So you bought some bagels and some matzo, but now you have a serious question to answer. What should you put on them??? Hummus, duh!

Hummus is made from chickpeas or other beans blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic.

4.  Falafel

Celebrate the Fourth of July by celebrating diversity! Like the pharaohs, falafel is said to be of Egyptian origin (exotic!). Falafel was possibly originally eaten by Coptic Christians as a replacement for meat during Lent. Fun Fact: Falafel became so popular in the Land of the Nile that at one point McDonald’s served a “McFalafel” all across Egypt! To maximize yum’ness, be sure to add lots of hummus!

The best part about falafel? It’s 100% vegan-friendly!

5.  Knish

What would the Fourth of July be without knishes??? It wouldn’t be a holiday, I tell you!!! Knishes are delicious doughy delicacies filled with basically whatever you want — mashed potato, sweet potatoes, black beans, onions, tofu, sauerkraut, spinach, cheese, or ground meat. You can even add fruit! Our tip? Go with something vegan friendly to help lower your CO2 footprint!

Knishes with mashed potato and fried onions — mmmmmmm.

Happy Independence Day!!!

No fried chicken nor watermelon?!

Tofu Burgers on the solar cooker for me and the fam. In years past we would smoke some pork ribs, grill hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixins, but that was before I learned to check my privilege due to my inherent hetrosexual whiteness. I think the kids still sneak some meat and dark liquor from time to time, but who am I to judge them.

Nothing says USA like those foods…
