Washington, D.C. (Accredited Times) – Sorry, Donald Trump, the Charlottesville terror attack has backfired right in your fat, orange face.
In the wake of the Charlottesville terror attack, progressives have torn down dozens of racist monuments across the country. Duke University removed a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The University of Texas at Austin likewise removed statues of Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Albert Sidney Johnston, along with monuments to Confederate Postmaster General John Reagan and Governor James Stephen Hogg. Progressives even destroyed a statue of President Abraham Lincoln and spray-painted an expletive on the Lincoln Memorial. Lincoln, of course, was a racist who repeatedly used the N-word.
Now it’s time for another long-overdue change: the Democratic Party must officially change its name.
Sadly, the Democratic Party has an unfortunate history of racism. President Thomas Jefferson founded the Democratic Party. However, as African-American leader Al Sharpton has pointed out, Thomas Jefferson was a racist:
President Andrew Jackson also played an instrumental role in creating the Democratic Party. Jackson, however, was even worse than Jefferson — which is why President Barack Hussein Obama kicked Jackson off of the $20 bill in favor of African-American Harriet Tubman.
The first progressive Democrat elected to the Presidency was Woodrow Wilson. Wilson segregated the federal government and said: “There are no government positions for Negroes in the South. A Negro’s place [is] in the corn field.”
All of the Confederates belonged to or supported the Democratic Party. Confederate President Jefferson Davis was a Democrat. So was Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens.
All of the noted segregationists in the 1960s also belonged to or supported the Democratic Party — including Alabama Governor George Wallace, Birmingham Commissioner Theophilus “Bull” Connor, Georgia Governor Lester Maddox, Arkansas Senator J. William Fulbright (Bill Clinton’s mentor), and Senate Majority Leader Robert Byrd (Hillary Clinton’s mentor).
In 1944, Byrd wrote a letter to segregationist Mississippi Senator Theodore Bilbo, also a Democrat, stating: “I shall never fight in the armed forces with a negro by my side … Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”
In 1946, Byrd similarly wrote a letter to the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, stating: “The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia and in every state in the nation.”
The Democratic Party made Byrd its Senate Majority Leader from 1987 to 1989. He served as President Pro Tempore in the Senate from 2007 until 2010. After Byrd’s death in 2010, West Virginia Democrats placed a statue of Byrd right in front of the West Virginia State Capitol.
As progressives, we simply cannot allow any symbolic vestige of racism to remain. It’s time to change the Democratic Party’s name. We need something that more accurately reflects our political positions.
I vote for Communist Party USA.
