The right has worked hard to destroy the reputation of CNN, one of the world’s most reputable news organizations. Through slander, lies and fake news, the alt right and Donald Trump have chipped away at CNN’s credibility, while the struggling news organization’s reporters and accredited journalists have desperately tried to counter these attacks with facts and reasoned arguments. But the attacks have only intensified, holding CNN to an impossibly high standard that no accredited news organization could ever be expected to meet. Nonetheless, CNN continues to courageously cover the Russia scandal in the face of these intimidation tactics, with new breaking stories about how Putin’s hackers targeted Pokemon Go to undermine US democracy.
CNN isn’t going back down in the face of this bullying from Donald Trump and his alt right terrorist supporters, and they’ve just released a new campaign to combat their lies head on, by reiterating that CNN cares about facts. In their first #FactsFirst campaign video, they start by explaining what a fact is, in case you don’t know, with the example of an apple. As they explain, an apple is an apple. It isn’t something else, like a banana. It is what it is. If something is something, then it is that thing that it is. They also explain that facts are facts, whether you like them or not, and they fearlessly report them. So just because Trump supporters may not like the fact that Russia hacked the election, it’s still a fact, and they better accept it.
Here is the campaign video that has the alt right running scared, and has Trump quaking in his boots:
The campaign hashtag #FactsFirst has already suffered vicious attacks on twitter by right wing trolls, but the accredited media has explained these attacks away with a variety of accredited articles.
The campaign has only run for two days though, so let’s wait and see what happens. I think it’s safe to say that this is going to have a devastating affect on the populists and right wingers who use post-truth to push emotional narratives, rather than making a case with reasoned and evidence. This will force the alt right to use actual facts to back up their arguments, which they can’t do, and will therefore lead to their eventual demise.
