Vatican City (Accredited Times) – In bombshell comments made on Saturday, Pope Francis declared “fake news” a “very serious sin.” According to Francis, “fake news” is “grave sin that hurts the heart of the journalist and hurts others.”
“You shouldn’t fall into the ‘sins of communication’ — disinformation, or giving just one side, calumny that is sensationalized, or defamation, looking for things that are old news and have been dealt with and bringing them to light today,” Francis noted.
In making the comments, the Pope appeared to praise the Accredited Times profusely. According to Francis, accredited reports are “fundamental” to democratic societies. Experts believed Francis to be referring specifically to the Accredited Times.
“The Accredited Times is really going to benefit from Pope Francis’ statements,” one anonymous expert told us. “Pope Francis is basically telling his followers that it’s their religious duty to read the Accredited Times,” xe continued. “With 1.2 billion Catholics worldwide, the Pope’s endorsement is sure to boost the Accredited Times readership. It’s really amazing when you consider that the Accredited Times is already the fastest growing accredited news site on the web.”
“The Accredited Times is already more valuable than Newsweek and the New York Daily News,” another expert noted. “That’s really remarkable, but not particularly surprising given how accredited the Accredited Times is. With Pope Francis boosting them in the Catholic demographic, I’d expect the Accredited Times’ valuation soon to be at least a hundred times both Newsweek and the New York Daily News combined.”
Other experts remarked that Pope Francis’ statements were sure to undermine the biggest proponent of fake news: Donald Trump.
“Donald Trump’s whole political career is based on fake news. Infowars, Russia Today, Breitbart, Wikileaks — these are all Russian front groups,” another anonymous expert said. “Pope Francis is essentially indicating that he thinks Trump should be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors. Trump is clearly guilty. Just read the Russian dossier,” the expert noted, citing MSNBC and CNN.
With Pope Francis’ stunning endorsement, the Accredited Times is expected to overtake MSNBC and CNN in total ratings sometime next year.
“The Accredited Times is an unstoppable freight train,” three anonymous experts chanted in unison while wafting incense through the air. “I mean first they had the bombshell on Lady Gaga — and now they have Pope Francis. Unstoppable.”
