In some ways Donald Trump seems the unlikely savior of conservatism — billionaire playboy, divorcee, reality TV star, New Yorker. These are the demographic groups of Democrats, not anti-establishment conservatives.
Fourteen years ago, Trump seemed substantially more liberal. He gave money to Democrats. He worked at NBC. Even Oprah liked him.
But then something changed. Trump became a birther. He started pushing for tax cuts and limited government. He started parading patriotic themes, like “America First” and “Make America Great Again.” The Trump of the Howard Stern Show became the Trump of the Sean Hannity Show.
The question is why. Of course, there’s little doubt that Trump, like other white males, has long harbored racist, sexist, xenophobic, and Islamophobic sentiments. But Trump has gone well beyond the typical “Archie Bunker” political incorrectness. The Trump of today is conservatism’s foremost champion against socialism. Notably, Trump’s transformation sometime in the mid-2000s seems to coincide with his marriage to a mostly quiet womyn of Eastern European origin, Melania Trump (née Knavs). According to experts that we surveyed, Melania may be the major factor in pushing Trump against progressivism, a.k.a., communism.
Melania’s background screams “anti-communist.” Born in Yugoslavia in 1970, Melania grew up in a communist country under the shadow of the Soviet Union, the daughter of a manager of car and motorcycle dealerships — traditionally a bourgeois occupation. Despite communist rules prohibiting the free exercise of religion, Melania’s father, Viktor Knavs, had Melania secretly baptized in the Catholic Church. The Knavs family likely harbored an intense hatred of communism. Although Melania’s father had success as a businessman, the communist economy kept the Knavs in humble circumstances; Melania mostly grew up in modest apartments, rather than the lavish penthouses Melania enjoys today.
At eighteen, Melania defected from the Eastern Bloc and moved to capitalist Milan, Italy where she began a modeling career for capitalistic companies. She later moved to New York City, the heart of capitalism in the Western world, to continue her bourgeois frivolities. Working ten modeling jobs in seven weeks, Melania gained a reputation as a hard worker and soon became massively successful in her career. When communism fell in the Eastern Bloc, Melania shockingly supported the regressive anti-communists.
Like many Eastern Europeans, Melania seems to have strong traditional values, including a strong religious faith. After Trump stole the Presidential election in 2016, Melania reportedly said, “I’m not going to go into that White House unless it has been completely exorcised.” Under the Obama administration, Barack and Michelle accumulated large numbers of religious artifacts from around the world, including Voodoo dolls from Haiti and witch-doctor idols from Africa. On Melania’s insistence, all of the non-Christian artifacts were tossed out of the White House. According to Pastor Paul Begley of Community Gospel Baptist Church in Knox, Indiana, “All religious artifacts from former administrations were removed except for one cross on one wall in the White House.”
In moving to the White House, Melania and Donald reportedly allowed “40 pastors to come in to the White House and anoint [Donald] with oil and lay their hands and pray on him.” The Trumps then had the pastors conduct a full “Spiritual Cleaning” of the White House. The cleansing bears a stark contrast to the Clintons, who, according to Bill Clinton’s autobiography, attended a Voodoo ceremony in Haiti where an alleged “spirit arrived” and a person bit the head off of a chicken while others burned their bodies with torches and walked over hot coals.
Notably, while Western Europe has become more progressive, Eastern Europe has followed America’s mad descent into Trumpism. In Hungary, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has taken the same capitalistic and xenophobic positions as Donald Trump, even advocating building a wall to keep out peaceful Muslim immigrants. In the Czech Republic, Prime Minister Miloš Zeman endorsed Trump. And in Russia . . . well, we’ve heard enough about Trump and Russia for now.
Melania’s capitalistic traditionalism is frightening. Melania needs to be targeted and attacked vigorously. We cannot allow critics of socialism to influence policy. The next time Melania attends an event, progressives need to protest vigorously and show the Trumps that America is not Eastern Europe. America is socialist. Don’t let America fall to the capitalists.
