As has just been confirmed by the French media, Emmanuel Macron has been elected the new president of France. His victory is resounding, with around 65% voting for the centrist (ni droit, ni gauche) politician versus a mere 35% for bigoted anti-semitist Marine le Pen. Progressives around the world can relax. Tomorrow, we anticipate that equity markets will break new highs, gold and silver will sink into oblivion, and a spectacular rainbow will appear over the LGBTQ+ community.
But, wait. There is already trouble on the horizon in the form of Marion Maréchal le Pen. It seems that the 27 year-old Grand-daughter of National Front founder, Jean-Marie le Pen, has managed to woo the unaccredited media with her charms. She is supposedly a strong candidate for the presidential elections in 2022. But, who exactly is this new Joan d’Arc?
Le Pen is the MP for the 3rd constituency of Vaucluse, a French Département in the south of the country. But, let’s be honest, this has nothing to do with her popularity.
At the Accredited Times, we abhor the fact that photogenic looks and a winning smile somehow allow a politician to be taken seriously. Are we not better than this? Surely, it is the ideas and philosophy of a candidate which determine whether or not we listen to his/her views?
All we know about Marion Maréchal le Pen is that she represents the very hateful racist right-wing views that we deplore, being the very good people that we are. Why, she is even against abortion. As a good Catholic woman, she would deprive womyn of their most basic rights, to terminate the lives inside them.
It is astonishing in this day and age that people will give credence to politicians simply by virtue of their appearance. Would this image make you vote for this fascist?
We think not. We appeal to the French voters, and urge them to vote Macron again in 2022.
